I have received my glucometer, the device that measures your blood sugar level from a drop of blood, which I ordered from Amazon. My first reading taken upon arising after not having eaten since midnight, called the fasting blood sugar, was 315. That is not good at all. Normal fasting BS (blood sugar) is <100. Before I meet with the doctor, I would like to try very hard to get the value down. I’m feeling anxious, afraid to eat, over exercising. I have decided that since my body cannot process carbs (the source of dietary glucose) well, I will have to limit them strictly. The American Diabetes Association recommends that women eat 45-60 grams of carbohydrate at every meal and 15 grams for snacks! I’m thinking my body cannot process carbs so why tax my body so much? I am going on a low carb diet with a 30 carb max per day. So in addition to alcohol, grain and sugar, I will omit fruit and starchy vegetables. I am determined to do this but it is difficult and I do feel that my life must be over if I can never again enjoy the foods that we all do, especially at holidays and family gatherings.
I have a guide that I visit to seek advice concerning body issues. In my mind’s eye he is a perfect human specimen with lean muscular definition everywhere, robust in appearance and personality and dressed funnily like a roman warrior without the head gear. This is what he had to say to me when I asked him how to deal with my feelings of food deprivation:
YOUR BODY WILL STAY INFLAMED UNTIL YOU DECIDE TO GIVE UP ALCOHOL AND OTHER INFLAMMATORY FOODS. YOU HAVE TO SET YOUR MIND AGAINST IT. SOBER AND HEALTHY IS THE NEW HIGH.CONFRONT YOUR REASONS FOR EATING/DRINKING AND CONQUER THEM AND THE BODY WILL RIGHT ITSELF. KEEP ME RIDING ON YOUR SHOULDER FOR ENCOURAGEMENT. YOUR BODY IS TRYING TO PUSH YOU IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION IN ORDER TO MAXIMISE YOUR POTENTIAL.YOU WILL NOT BE DEPRIVED-YOU WILL BE FREE. FOR MOST PEOPLE ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION IS ABOUT THE FEELING THEY GET FROM THE DRINK AND FOR MANY PEOPLE A WAY TO COPE. BEFORE EATING OR DRINKING IT’S BEST TO ASK : ”WHAT IS MY MOTIVATION?”
It is my belief that it is possible to correct any condition of ill health. Using the building blocks of universal energy we create our bodies, create the awful fixes we get ourselves into and can create good health again. This type of journey takes mental and physical willpower but what is the alternative? The alternative is that you never get rid of your addictions and have to live your life on drugs which become less and less effective over time, while continuing to deny to yourself the real crux of the issue.
